Portfolio Prize Competition
The St. Michaels Art League began its art scholarship program in 2005 to
encourage graduating high school art students to continue to develop their
artistic skills in college.  Each year, local high school art students are
awarded scholarship assistance through the League’s Portfolio Prize
Competition.  This competition is open to all local high school art students,
who must submit a representative portfolio of their work for evaluation.

A panel of judges reviews all the portfolios and selects the winners.  The
winning portfolios are chosen on the basis of artistic performance, quality
of the portfolio in general, diversity of media, and overall creativity.  The
artists are formally recognized at an award ceremony held at either St.
Michaels High School or Easton High School.

The partnership between the St. Michaels Art League and local high school
art departments and their students continues to grow.  Little more than four
years into the program, the prize money awarded is more than ten times
greater than in our inaugural year as a result of the League’s increased
fundraising efforts.  Foremost in these events is the annual sale of one-
of-a-kind individually painted all-occasion and holiday cards created by Art
League members that are sold in locations throughout St. Michaels and at
Art League events.  In addition, a portion of the revenue from all of the Art
League’s show sales, workshops and classes is also donated to the
scholarship fund.
