Paint the Town
This annual event is held each June on the Saturday of Father’s
Day Weekend.  Inaugurated in 2006, it celebrates the fact that St.
Michaels is a major destination for artists, and invites them to set
up their easels and create a painting on site. All artists, amateur
and professional, visitors or residents, age 13 and up are eligible,
and can be seen painting throughout the charming and historic
town of St. Michaels.  In the past three years participation has
steadily grown, and in 2009 more than 50 artists registered to
paint, and over $500 in cash awards was presented.

The “Talbot Street Paint-Off,” an exciting new competition that
challenges artists to paint a scene on Talbot Street only between
8am and 1:30pm was added in 2009.  Artists and spectators alike
are invited to gather back at St. Luke’s Church in the early
afternoon for an informal reception, where judging of the Paint-
Off entries takes place, and cash prizes are awarded.  Light
refreshments are provided, and all paintings are available for sale
at the reception, which is free.

In conjunction with Paint the Town day, a judged exhibit of the
artwork created for the event is held at the St. Michaels Library
Gallery each July, and is open to all registered artists. In early
July a reception is held at the Library, and four cash prizes are
awarded to winning artists.  In addition to “Best in Show” and two
Juror’s Choice awards, the “Commissioner’s Award” was added
in 2009.  This award is presented by the St. Michaels Town
Commissioners for the painting that best exemplifies the spirit of
Paint the Town.

This event is very much a community event in which the Town
government and businesses partner with the St. Michaels Art
League to celebrate and support the arts in St. Michaels.  If you
are an artist, an art collector, or just someone who enjoys a great
day in St. Michaels, we hope  you will join us each June.  Check
our calendar for the upcoming event’s date.  Also see
our website for updated details as the event approaches.
Updated information will be posted concerning the day's events
as well as a registration form and rules for participation.

Calendar for this year's date.
