Nationally known oil painter Armand Cabrera will be giving a free “alla prima” (completed in one sitting) demonstration of a large oil painting from a small sketch at the Calhoon MEBA Engineering School, 27050 St. Michaels Road (Rt. 33) in the Newberry Auditorium from 1 - 4 p. m. on Monday, August 24th (follow signs for demo parking when entering MEBA campus).
A nominal donation of $5 is suggested, but optional; profits will benefit the Art League Scholarship Fund, which helps local high school art students. Seating in the auditorium will be on a first-come, first-serve basis and the demo will begin promptly at 1pm. Although this is not a class per se, Armand will begin with a large blank canvas and will explain his painting process during the demo. He will be happy to answer questions and discuss his technique. Whether you are an artist, an art collector or an art enthusiast, this will be a unique opportunity you won’t want to miss!
A dedicated painter, Armand’s style is to paint “alla prima,” completing his paintings in one sitting whether in the studio or out of doors. Currently represented by fine art galleries throughout the country, he has had numerous one-man exhibitions, and his work can be found in corporate and private collections around the world. Armand writes regularly for his informative blog – ArtAndInfluence.blogspot.com. He was recently honored with a ten page article in International Artist Magazine.
Additionally, American Art Collector, International Artist, Art of the West, and Southwest Art magazines have all recognized him as one of the premier contemporary painters in the country. He has been juried into the prestigious "Contemporary Masters, Artistic Eden" Exhibition at the Pasadena Museum of History in Pasadena, California and the “Invitational Paintout – In the Footsteps of Thomas Moran.” For more information on the artist and his work, click here for the artist’s website.
Although Armand has painted extensively in this area, this painting demonstration is a prelude to his first-ever painting workshop on the Eastern Shore, sponsored by the St. Michaels Art League and to be held in the spring (May 14 - 16) of 2010 at MEBA.
